2 Corinthians (Program #26) – The Ministry of the Spirit as the Life Supply, and of Righteousness as God’s Expression (1)

The Old Testament had one unique ministry beginning with Moses and his receiving and delivering to the children of Israel the law or commandments. The ministry of the law commands and continues until the coming of Christ. But the coming of Christ usher in another ministry, the ministry of the New Covenant. Actually these two are the only ministries spoken of in the Bible.

Acts chapter 1 makes it very clear that not withstanding the current situation, there is a reality of only one ministry. Listen to verse 17 and 25 of Acts chapter 1,

17 “For he was numbered among us and was allotted his portion of this ministry.”
25 “To take the place of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”

The ministry of the New Covenant is a very great matter that we dare not take lightly, neither should we take it into our own hand to try to put it into practice.

Leviticus (Program #16) -The Sin Offering Christ for the Sins of God’s People (2)

Leviticus 4:2 speaks of the sin of ignorance, whereas some version translated unintentional sin.  God’s remedy in the Old Testament was the sin offering. Today, we  commit sins unintentionally or inadvertently.  In fact often times the very thing that we determine not to do we end up doing and doing them repeatedly.  Why does this occur even to the most spiritually advanced?  Of course we know that in Christ we are forgiven but still the utter frustration and discouragement that we feel. How many times have we prayed “Lord how long will I continue to do this?”.  But we hope that our fellowship today will be a much practical help to all of God’s seekers as we look at the sin offering in Leviticus and also its New Testament application.

In His wisdom and understanding God has elected to reveal Himself in His plan.  Not by way of miraculous appearances from the heavens or by supernatural manifestations but rather by speaking. The offerings that were made in the Tabernacle and later on in the Temple were very important aspect of the Jewish religion of Old Testament.  But Christ as the real Lamb of God and as the real Bread of Life fulfills all of these offerings in full.  As the Lamb He is the genuine burnt offering and as the Bread of Life He is the real meal offering to be enjoyed both by God and man.

What is it to worship God?  Well, for man’s side it is obvious worship takes many form and it is practiced in countless ways with all manner of rituals.  But what about from God’s side.  Does the Bible reveal what God is looking for in real genuine worship?  To see this more clearly we really should go back to the Old Testament books like Leviticus where elaborate details are given to us in the form of the offerings that took place in the Tabernacle and later on in the Temple.  Of course the age of the offerings have long since passed but the reality of these offerings must be the focus of all our worship even today.  This reality is the very Christ whom God has given to us to experience and enjoy.
