Matthew (Program #55) – The Kingdom Reward and the Parable of the Kingdom Reward

A rich young man who desired to do something in order to receive eternal life approached the Lord Jesus about this matter.   But the Lord’s word to him caused him to leave in utter discouragement at the impossibility that he could ever meet such requirement.  Jesus then use this occasion to review the matter not of salvation but of the reward awaiting those who follow Him into the kingdom.

The reward of the kingdom is NOT our salvation and the hope of our salvation.  This is something altogether different many believers have missed…

Matthew (Program #54) – The Kingdom Requirements

Lust, pride and the love of riches, these are 3 scorpions that plague virtually every human being.  Many people come to Christ motivated by the desire to be free from the sting of these scorpions.  As God’s people, we must ultimately experience this kind of freedom.  But deliverance from these can never be attained by mere will power or determination.   As we consider this account in Matthew 19 and how much these things will affect our ultimate standing in God’s kingdom.

Matthew (Program #53) – Relationships in the Kingdom (2)

Who can possibly describe the depth of God’s forgiveness of our debt to Him.  Yet we frequently find it very difficult even impossible to forgive others who would even slightly offended us.   Matthew 18 reveals that if we fail to forgive others after we have received God’s forgiveness of us, we are in serious jeopardy and we will face a very harsh reality when we meet Christ.  You may say as many do, “I don’t have to worry, I have been forgiven of everything and on my way to heaven”.  Well,  if this is your thought we hope, we even pray that you stay tune today because this chapter like much of Matthew is not dealing with our eternal destiny but rather our practical participation in the kingdom of the heavens.

Matthew (Program #52) – Relationships in the Kingdom (1)

In Matthew 18 the disciples asked the Lord Jesus, “who is the greatest in the kingdom of the heavens?”  What would we say?  The one with power to heal or the gifted preacher?  Well, the Lord Jesus answered the question in this way; “and He called a little child to Him and stood him in their midst.. He therefore who will humble himself like this little child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of the heavens.”

Matthew (Program #51) – Vision Concerning Christ

The gospel of Matthew is somewhat different than the other 3.  It chronicled many of the same events but the arrangement of these events in Matthew has little to do with the actual sequence in which they happened.  Rather Matthew presents these cases carefully and strategically and has ordered them to portrait a full revelation of God’s kingdom.  We will see the wonder of the divine arrangement in Matthew again today.

Matthew (Program #50) – The Miniature and Manifestation of Kingdom

At the northern most tip of Israel, stands majestic Mount Herman.  This was most likely the spot where the Lord Jesus took His three disciples to witness one of the most incredible events ever seen by men’s eyes.  This was the transfiguration of the Man Jesus giving His chosen ones a brief glimpse of His glorious divinity as it was encased in His uplifted humanity.  Our words failed in any meaningful measure to convey the depth what Peter, James and John saw first hand that day.

Matthew (Program #49) – The Pathway to Glory (7)

In one of the truly high point of the New Testament, the apostle Peter has the revelation of revelations, “You are the Christ”, he declares “the Son of the living God”.  But just moments later, after expressing his deep concern for the welfare of Christ, the Lord turns and calls Peter “Satan”.  What can possibly account for this dramatic reversal for our dear brother Peter?   We will find out as we return to the pathway of glory today in our life study of Matthew chapter 16.

Matthew (Program #48) – The Pathway to Glory (6)

In the far north of Israel, far away from the religious capital of Jerusalem, the Lord Jesus posed the question of the ages to His disciples; who do men say that I am?  and then even more pertinent; who do you say that I am?   It was at this critical moment in the New Testament record that Peter made his monumental declaration “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”.  Peter’s word testifies the inner revelation that only God can plan in a man’s heart.  But the revelation did not stop at this point.

We trust that if you stay with us today, your own perception of the great revelation will be very much enhanced before we are through.

Matthew (Program #47) – The Pathway to Glory (5)

There is a wonderful account in Matthew chapter 15 about a gentile woman who approaches Christ not as an upright and qualified person but as a dog, just willing to eat the crumbs that have fallen from the table.  This kind of heart touched the Lord very much and He used her coming as an opportunity to present one of the great truths of the Christian life.   We will get into this matter in some details today.

Matthew (Program #46) – The Pathway to Glory (4)

Tradition.  Webster says “an inherited, established or customary pattern of thought, action or behavior handed down by word-of-mouth or by example from one generation to another without written instruction”.  Of course, traditions are an important part of our cultural heritage or even our religious heritage.  But what do we do when the traditions we cherished are found to be in direct conflict with God’s infallible word?  This dilemma has confronted believers and God-fearing people for centuries.  There are even numerous such accounts in Scriptures.  But it also confronts us, as God’s people today.   As we touch today some time-honored and beloved traditions of today’s religious culture.
