Isaiah (Program #24) – Christ as the Servant of Jehovah (11)

The gospels unveil Jesus Christ coming in the flesh to mankind.  This was His first coming and it was foretold in many passages of the Old Testament.  As Christians today most of us are eagerly awaiting His second coming and this too was clearly alluded to in ancient Scripture such as Isaiah.  But to see these prophecies clearly at times require a skillful and experienced guide.  Watchman Nee and Witness Lee was such guides to the church in this age.

Matthew (Program #14) – The Decree of the Kingdom’s Constitution (2)

In three well-known chapters in the gospel of Matthew, the Lord Jesus gives a detailed description of the kingdom of the heavens.  It’s no accident, that this description begins with short verse: “Blessed are the poor in spirit”.  The kingdom of the heavens is absolutely related to our spirit.

Isaiah (Program #23) – Christ as the Servant of Jehovah (10)

A tremendous verse in the New Testament book of Galatians tells us “I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live but it is Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”  This is Galatians 2:20.  Actually the type of this marvelous truth of the Christian life is displayed in the Old Testament book of Isaiah.  Mankind in general and we specifically were all “fired” and replaced by the victorious Christ.  This is the theme of this great Old Testament book of prophecy and also the theme of today’s program on the life study of the Bible.

Matthew (Program #13) – The Decree of the Kingdom’s Constitution (1)

The gospel of Matthew is the gospel on the kingdom of the heavens.  One of the most difficult things for believers to understand is the kingdom of the heavens.  It does not correspond to any natural or religious concept.  It refers to something very specific.  To understand the kingdom of the heavens, we all need to be unloaded of our traditional thoughts and concepts from the past.

Matthew (Program #12) – The Beginning of the King’s Ministry

In the Old Testament, Isaiah give us a wonderful prophesy concerning the beginning of the ministry of Jesus Christ that would take place hundreds of years later.  The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali…the way to the sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the gentiles.  The people sitting in the darkness have seen a great light; and to those sitting in the region and shadow of death, to them Light has risen.  So it was Christ began His earthly ministry not in the religious capital Jerusalem, but in the despised region of Galilee.

Isaiah (Program #22) – Christ as the Servant of Jehovah (8 & 9)

Some of the most powerful imagery in Scripture is related to water; from the rive of water of life that flows from Genesis 1 all the way through Revelation 22.  Water is given to us as a picture of how God conveys His very divine life to man.  This picture is prominent in the book of Isaiah as well, where the water of life flows from springs, streams, fountains and wells.  And all the thirsty are compelled to come to God and drink freely.  Don’t miss this extraordinary life study of the Bible.

Matthew (Program #11) – The King’s Anointing (4)

In a well-known exchange between the Lord Jesus and the devil, Satan tempted Him to simply perform a miracle to proof His divine status.  As the genuine and all-powerful God, this would have been easy for Him to perform a simple miracle.  But instead He answered the challenge by saying to Satan, “you shall not test the Lord, your God”.  We are going to look at 3 major tests given to the newly annointed King in Matthew chapter four.

Isaiah (Program #21) – Christ as the Servant of Jehovah (7)

God’s plan for our redemption require a full and complete sacrifice for our sins and transgressions.  A spotless lamb was the type in the Old Testament until the real Lamb of God would arrive on the scene to take away the sins of the people and satisfy God’s righteous demands forever.  Of course, as Christians we know that Jesus Christ was such a perfect offering on our behalf.  Of all the passages of Scripture that deal with the great reality of the Christian faith, none provide a perfect and poetic narrative the chapter 53 in the Old Testament book of Isaiah.  This prophecy was written some seven hundred years before Christ, yet the description is awesome in its detail of Christ offering Himself for the transgression and iniquities of mankind.  Stay tune for our second program on Isaiah 53 on today’s life study of the Bible.

Isaiah (Program #20) – Christ as the Servant of Jehovah (6)

Friends, please listen to the words of the prophet Isaiah, spoken some seven hundred years before the coming of Christ:

“Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of Jehovah been revealed?  For He grew up like a tender plant before Him, And like a root out of dry ground. He has no attracting form nor majesty that we should look upon Him, Nor beautiful appearance that we should desire Him.  He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their faces, He was despised; and we did not esteem Him.  Surely He has borne our sicknesses, And carried our sorrows; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God and afflicted.  But He was wounded because of our transgressions; He was crushed because of our iniquities; The chastening for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we have been healed.  more…

Of course we all know the story that Jesus was born as a babe in Bethlehem.  We also know that Jerusalem was the religious capital of the world in His time.  But it is interesting the Bible introducing His ministry doesn’t say that Jesus came from Bethlehem and went to Jerusalem.  Rather it says then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan.
