Today in Genesis chapter 35, we come to a matter we are going to spend a couple programs on and that’s the matter of pillars.   We’ve seen before that Genesis is a book in which all of the seeds of the great truth of the Bible are sown.  The seed of this matter, the pillar appears first in chapter 28.  We are back with it today in more detail in chapter 35.  Where else in Scripture in addition to these portions in Genesis do we encounter pillars?

Genesis (Program #95) – Being Transformed (4)

Our life study of Genesis today brings us once again to chapter 35.   Chapter 35 means that we are going to remain today at Bethel, the House of God.  During the message today, Witness Lee again will use the term “church life”.  We’ve had it in the past, and this is in reference to the place or condition that we as believers need to be to experience God in a full way.   What is meant by this term “church life” and how it differs from just Christians “going to church”?

Genesis (Program #91) – A Bird’s-Eye View of God’s Building in the Scriptures

We have a very interesting life study today, in a sense it is inserted into our life study of Genesis because it deals with much more than just Genesis.  It’s really going to be an overview of the entire divine revelation.   Why is this an appropriate point for such an overview?

This is a point at which Jacob is brought back again to Bethel.  We talked about Bethel and saw how he first encounter Bethel at that he put the stone down as a pillow and had a dream concerning the heavens open and the angels of God ascending and descending, then he woke up and said this is Bethel, the House of God.  Brother Lee calls that a major turning point in Genesis and in fact it is a major turning point in the whole Bible, because it brings us to God’s heart desire, that is Bethel, to have a house where He, Himself can dwell with mankind.

We will be again on Jacob’s dream on Genesis 28 to see the intrinsic significance of the dream that the Lord give him in this chapter.  We have already touched this, but because of its significance of the first appearing in the Bible of the House of God.  It’s probably worth another look.

John (Program #13) – Life’s Purpose

Let the enemy do whatever he can, but whatever he does would just afford a chance for the Lord to do something more in resurrection.

In the changing of water into wine, we have seen the principle of life, that is to change death into life. Now, in the dealing of the temple, we can see the goal, the purpose of life. That is to build the house of God. This section of the Word is so short, but it has two aspects, which both are quite meaningful.

The first aspect is the cleansing aspect, and the second is the building aspect. With the temple of God, there is a need of these two aspects, the cleansing and the building. God’s enemy, Satan, always tries two things to damage or to frustrate the temple of God. Number one, to contaminate it, dirty with so many sinful things. So, this is why the house of God needs the cleansing. Number two, God’s enemy, Satan, always will try to damage, to tear down the temple of God. Today, with the Church life, it is the same. Satan always tries to get the Church life contaminated, dirtied with so many worldly things, sinful things. And then, Satan will always try to damage, if possible to tear down the Church life.

Ezekiel (Program #25) – The Holy Land and the Holy City

Clearly the subject and central focus of the last section of the book of Ezekiel is the temple, the house of God. Show the house to the house, the Lord tells Ezekiel and that is exactly what he does in the final chapters. Yet, there’s a very profound postscript to Ezekiel’s vision that is found in the final chapters of the book and that is the land upon which the temple sits. In fact the land and the house are the central focus of the entire Old Testament. Recall Jehovah’s words to Joshua following the death of Moses as the children of Israel were encamped at the border of the good land in Canaan, “Moses My servant is dead; now then arise, and cross over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land which I am giving to them, to the children of Israel. Every place on which the sole of your foot treads I have given to you, as I promised Moses…Be strong and take courage, for you will cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give to them.” (Joshua 1:2-3,6). Well if the temple typifies the church as the fulfillment of the house of God, what then does this land typify?
