Romans (Program #13) – The Bondage of the Law in Our Flesh (1)

Today we come to the wonderful truth in Romans chapter 7. Though a little difficult to understand, if any Christian sees the truth in this chapter, his Christian life will be liberated and revolutionized and he will know the real way to experience Christ.

Today we are coming to one of the most critical and striking of all the messages in this life study of Romans.  We will be brought into a view today that will surprise and enlighten us very much.

Romans chapter 7 is a continuation of Paul’s explaining to the Romans how they can live in grace… Abraham was justified by faith, but then God expected him to enjoy grace to bring forth Isaac, and this Isaac is the experience of Christ. This is a continuation of explaining how you can practically experience living this kind of life and grace. And in particular, in this chapter, he stresses how we are free from the law…

Exodus (Program #52) – The Law Being the Living Word of God Infusing His Substance Into His Loving Seekers

Moses the man of God met with God on the mountain of God for 40 days.  During that time God gave him the commandments for the people.  But when he came down from the mountain he had something more than just ten commandments inscribed on two tablets of stone; he was a man who was thoroughly infused with God’s element.

This is our second of the thirty programs that are going to be devoted to this matter of the law.  I said that almost reluctantly that our listeners would think “my goodness thirty programs devoted to the law!”  But what we are saying in these early ones and it will multiply as we go on it’s just one marvelous interpretation after another.  This is really a classic message in a classic portion of this ministry.  The subject that we’ve come to today specifically is God’s giving the commandments to Moses in Exodus chapter 20. This is going to go far beyond our natural concept concerning the law.

Jeremiah (Program #11) – A Word concerning Israel’s History

On Mount Sinai, Israel was in the dawning of a divine revelation. God had revealed the law to them as a portrait, a picture of Himself. And opened His heart’s desire to them that He would be everything to them, even a Husband that they would be a people to Him and eventually become even His duplication. But the history of Israel reveals how quickly they have departed from this revelation and this sunrise soon became a sunset, leaving Israel in darkness and under the chastising hand of Jehovah. This was the situation when God had to call a young boy to be a prophet for Him. Jeremiah was raised up by the Lord because Jehovah found no one among His kings, princes or even His priests that would be faithful to Him and speak His word to the people. To see Israel in the sunset of the divine revelation becomes a sober warning to us today – never to forsake Him, the fountain of living waters.

Matthew (Program #20) – The Decree of the Kingdom’s Constitution (8)

For centuries, Christians have not had a clear understanding of the law.  On the one had Romans and Galatians tell us that the law is over.  For example, Romans 10:4 says “Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness to everyone who believes.”  Base on verses like that a lot of Christians thinks that we can ignore the law altogether…

Matthew (Program #18) – The Decree of the Kingdom’s Constitution (6)

Matthew 5:17 says “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish, but to fulfill.”  Yet in other places in the New Testament we are told that the law has been done away with.   This has made the subject of the law a subject of great controversy and debate on Christians for hundreds of years.  In the Old Testament it was clear that God dealt with His people through the principle of the law.  But in the New Testament that principle has been replaced by the principle of faith.  So does that mean that the believers now has no obligations to conduct themselves according to the high standard of Scriptures?

Psalms (Program #39) – The Preciousness of Zion and Jerusalem in the Experiences and Praises of the Saints (1)

15 Psalms from Psalms 120 to 134 comprised a section known as the Psalms of ascent. They are all very short and very sweet.  Lord will we will see they bring us to the high peaks.

Psalms 120:1 ” In my distress I called out to Jehovah, And He answered me.”
That tells you a lot right there. The whole thing starts with distress and up until Psalms 119 is full of the law and they loved the law but they can’t keep the law, eventually the children of Israel don’t follow the law. And eventually start to serve idols. So, the result is they go to captivity and they are in distress. These Psalms of ascent started out with distress. If you do not have the distress where you go down you can never come up. So there is a lot of appreciation. more…

Psalms (Program #38) – Christ—The Reality of the Law as the Testimony and the Word of God

consider for a moment an interesting observation.  Suppose the ruler of a country were to pass a law legalizing corruption, what will that tell you of the character of that ruler?  It will likely tell you that this person, this one making such law was also corrupt himself.  You see, laws are actually a kind of portrait of the law-giver.  So when we come to the laws of God we shall realize that they are a portrait of the Person that gave them.  In another word, the laws given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai is a portrait of the Person of God, a portrait of Jesus Christ.  So when we come to a passage of Scripture such as the 119th Psalm with its 176 verses many speaking of the law, we should have the impression that what we are seeing is not God’s demands upon you and me but rather we are seeing Christ as God’s expression and also the one to whom we are coming that He may supply us with Himself in order that we as His members could live Him out fully meeting even surpassing God’s every demand.

Psalms (Program #11) – The Lines, the Principles and the Spirit of the Bible Concerning Christ and the Law

In order to understand, that is to really understand the Bible, we need several things. First, of course, we need light from God for we simply cannot apprehend the real spiritual significance with our natural understanding. But practically, there are some helpful points to bring us into that light. First, we need to see the lines or the threads that run throughout Scripture. Then there are the principles that govern Scripture. And finally, there is the Spirit of the Bible. If we see the lines, the principles and the Spirit of the Bible, we will begin to enter into not just a superficial knowing of God’s word but we will begin to enter into the depths of His words.

Psalms (Program #2) – Christ in God’s Economy versus the Law in Man’s Appreciation (1)

Many of the 39 books of the Old Testament touched the matter of the law. The law generally refers to the commands that God delivered to Moses on Mount Sinai after the children of Israel had their exodus from Egypt. And the impact that these laws has had not just on God’s people but on all of western civilization is hard to overstate.

God’s people both in New and Old Testament heirs treasure the law of God.  But there is a key word in the New Testament that reveals something crucial concerning God’s entire economy and how the law relates to it.  In Rom 5:20 it says, “And the law entered in alongside that the offense might abound”  What does it mean that the law entered in alongside?  Well, we will discuss this in many more items relate to the law and the central focus of God’s economy on today’s program.

Hebrews (Program #63) – The Law – the Testimony of God

The law of God, or the law of commandments as it’s sometimes called, presents on the surface a significant demand on mankind. And, most religions are focused on motivating people to do their best to keep this law. But, is this the real intention or function of the law? And, what do laws say about the person that makes the law? These are questions that God wants to answer if we can get His light in His word.
