Hebrews (Program #3) – The Son

God has spoken, praise Him!   Without His speaking, God is mysterious. But He has revealed Himself in His speaking.  God is mysterious and this book of the New Testament, Hebrews, is mysterious as well. But God does not desire to remain a mystery to His created vessels, does He? How has He chosen to unveil this mystery to mankind?

God is certainly mysterious, He is invisible. Even John says “no man has ever seen God”. Also Paul mentioned the same thing – he said “confessedly great is the mystery of godliness”. But both of these writers also let us know that God can be known. First of all, John says “the only begotten Son has declared Him” and Paul says “He was manifested in the flesh”. So this mysterious God has been incarnated, He has come in the flesh, He has come in a visible way to make this mysterious God known. God became a man – Jesus Christ. So, this is one way which God has chosen to unveil this mystery to mankind, that is, by coming into mankind and also by His speaking. Hebrews is a book of God’s speaking. Do you have God’s speaking? Listen today to find out how you can receive light, life and power from God’s speaking in the Son. The book of Hebrews begins with God’s speaking. Speaking is the way a living person makes himself known. Without doubt, we have a living God desiring to make Himself known to men.

It’s interesting that this mysterious book opens with God’s speaking and a contrast to His speaking in the Old Testament dispensation with that of His speaking in the New Testament. What is the primary distinction? Hebrews is a book of God’s speaking; it doesn’t acknowledge an author to emphasize the point that it is the speaking of God to His people. The main point of the book of Hebrews is to help those who had heard His Old Testament speaking to realize that He has a New Testament speaking. more…

Song of Songs (Program #4) – Called to be Delivered from the Self Through the Oneness with the Cross

Hebrews 12:2 tells us, “Looking away unto Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down on the right hand of the throne of God.”

The Song of Songs is a picture of a lover of the Lord Jesus Christ in the pursuit of Him and there are four stages of that pursuit. The theme of Song of Songs is satisfaction of satisfactions. This book portrays the four stages in the experience of the lover of Christ and can be summarized by the following four sentences:
1) A lover of Christ should be one who is attracted by His love and drawn by Him in His sweetness to pursue after Him for full satisfaction.
2) A lover of Christ should be one who is called by Him to be delivered from the self through his oneness with the cross of Christ.
3) A lover of Christ should be one who is called by Him to live in ascension as the new creation of God in the resurrection of Christ.
4) A lover of Christ should be one who is called by Him more strongly to live within the veil through His cross after the lover’s experience of His resurrection.

When we’re loving the Lord, we need to learn how to look away unto Jesus, look away from ourselves.

Leviticus (Program #25) – A Concluding Word on the Offerings and the Priesthood

Hebrews is a marvelous New Testament book that contains many passages that are well-known and often quoted by Christians. Yet the book as a whole remains a mystery to a great many believers. The key to understanding Hebrews may well be found in the Old Testament book of Leviticus. As we will see today that the book of Hebrews is an exposition of Leviticus.

In Hebrews 9:11-14 says “But Christ … not through the blood of goats and calves but through His own blood, entered once for all into the Holy of Holies, obtaining an eternal redemption/ For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who are defiled sanctify to the purity of the flesh/ How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” more…

Leviticus (Program #3) – The Burnt Offering – Christ for God’s Satisfaction (1)

“…Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” This popular verse from Hebrews chapter 10 is commonly used but seldom understood in its real context – and that is of Christ replacing the Old Testament offerings. Stay with us today as we once again look at the picture of Christ as the Lamb of God in our life study of Leviticus.

The last 2 programs really were both introductions: firstly, to the book of Leviticus and then to the five major offerings which typify Christ in this book. We’re going to touch these offerings.  The focus today will be on the burnt offering.

At the end of the book of Exodus, we do see that the tabernacle is built. But now in Leviticus we see not only that the tabernacle is built but the living God is living in that tabernacle. And, He has provided the offerings for us, as His believers, to enter into the tabernacle – to have fellowship with Him, to contact Him, to enjoy Him and eventually, we see through typology, that it all leads to Christ and the experience of Christ…
