Judges (Program #5) – The Miserable History of Israel’s Forsaking God (4)

The Bible begins with the story of Adam and how he gained a wife, Eve. In the New Testament of course we find out that Adam is a type of Christ, the very God and Eve, a type of God’s people, the Church.  So, from the beginning the Bible becomes a book of the marriage of God Himself with His people.  Yet by chapter 3 of Genesis, God’s enemy comes in to seduce man, to forsake God as their husband.  The result of this separation or divorce is the story of the chaotic history of mankind. Whatever nation, whatever group, whatever person forsakes God to become involves in something else ends up in a chaotic situation.  Israel’s history has seen this story repeated again and again in a cycle after cycle and soberly as we consider the situation even in the church, we’ see the same thing today.

Exodus (Program #102) – The Curtain for the Door of the Tent (2)

The Old Testament tabernacle had two distinct sections with two curtains covering the entrances.  One curtain was called a veil, the other a screen.  Both of these curtains depict the death of Christ dealing with so many negative things.  Yet both curtains became the entrance for God’s people.  They are mysterious, yet marvelous.  The curtains in the tabernacle are our theme today.

We are back in the tabernacle today.  As we have seen, the tabernacle is a perfect picture of God’s dwelling place with man, so it is a good place to be.

Exodus (Program #101) – The Curtain for the Door of the Tent (1)

Exodus shows us that the tabernacle represents God’s dwelling place and the place where He can meet with man.  But separating God from man are two curtains or veils.  Before man can meet with God, he must first pass through these layers of separation.  What is the significance of these curtains of blue, purple and scarlet?  Please set the next 30 minutes aside for your own journey through the veil.

We’ve been looking at the tabernacle according to the biblical account.  As we’ve done so, the order that the book of Exodus presents these things is very interesting.  It always seems to start from the inside out and from the top down.  This is backward it seems to our natural  way of looking at things describing things.  This pattern is going to very much be maintained today.  Let’s spend a minute or two discussing the significance of how these description are ordered.

Jeremiah (Program #24) – Separation of the Church, God’s New Testament Elect from the World in All its Aspects

The Bible, especially the Old Testament is often studies merely in the way of history, looking at names, dates and places.  And though there are some values in this manner of study, for us as believers the greater need is to see the Bible open up as a book of life.  For this, it is seeing the spiritual significance of events that yields the greatest benefit.  And It is in this light that our study of Jeremiah has brought us to consider the final chapters where God’s wrath even His vengeance is poured out on one nation on earth that has been the most offensive to Him and rendered the most damage upon His chose people.  God’s judgment upon Babylon and its significance for God’s people today is our topic.
