Romans (Program #52) – Serving in the Gospel of His Son

In Romans chapter one, we’re exhorted to serve in the gospel of His Son. We may think that this means just to preach the gospel, but we’ll find out today in the Life-Study of the Bible with Witness Lee that to serve God in the gospel of His Son is far more involved than simply telling people the good news of Christ’s salvation.

This title “Serving in the Gospel of His Son” comes from verse 9 of Romans 1 where Paul says “God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of His Son”. Then in verse 1 of the same chapter, Paul said that he’s separated unto the gospel of God. The trouble and persecution became so heavy that nearly all the believers except the apostles were forced to leave. They were scattered, to use the Bible’s own phrase.  Was this just God’s enemy reacting to the early success of the gospel or was this a genuine move of God under his sovereign hand? Early in Acts chapter 3, the apostle Peter performed one of the great miracles of the New Testament, healing a man lame from his mother’s womb. This mighty deed drew the attention of a sizable crowd, and Peter seized the opportunity to preach. But, it is interesting to note that he did not preach a sermon about divine healing. Rather, he preached Christ, and Christ alone. His focus was not the healing, but the healer. And that will be our focus as well today on this life study of the Bible.

Mark (Program #54) – A Life Fully According To and For God’s New Testament Economy (13-15)

What is the central thought of the Lord’s message in Mark chapter 4?

The central thought is that the Lord is the sower, sowing Himself into us as a seed. He opened His preaching in chapter 4 with these words, “Behold, the sower went out to sow.” Later in chapter 4:26 He said, “So is the kingdom of God: as if a man cast seed on the earth,”

Here we have the Lord as the sower, sowing Himself as the seed into God’s chosen people.

Mark (Program #12) – The Parables of the Kingdom (2)

All genuine Christian believers love to hear the preaching of the gospel. We admire greatly those whom the Lord had raised up with the gift of evangelism and most of us prayed fervently for the spread of the gospel.  But as such believers we should also asked ourselves a couple of basic questions regarding the gospel.

First, what is the gospel?  Then, what is the goal of the gospel?  If our answer to the first question did not incorporated the realization that the gospel really is just Christ Himself then we need some further enlightenment.  And if our answer to the question in regarding to the goal of the gospel was something along the line that the goal of the gospel is to save sinners so that they can go to heaven then we should pray as Paul the apostle prayed that the Father in His mercy would grant us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the full knowledge of Him.

1 Peter (Program #6) – The Full Salvation of the Triune God and Its Issues (4)

Even though Peter’s entire contribution to the New Testament only comprises eight chapters, the scope of his writing was extremely broad.  In his first epistle he incorporates both the prophecies of the ancient Old Testament prophets and the preaching and teaching of the New Testament apostles and links both of these in the Holy Spirit’s application of God’s full salvation upon His chosen people.

1 Thessalonians (Program #11) – Encouragement for Faith, Love, and Hope

When the apostle Paul first passed through Thessalonica and established the Church there, he set the young and new believers on a solid footing not just preaching the gospel to them but also anchoring them in the three strong elements of their life in Christ, faith, love and hope.

Chapter 1:3, “Remembering unceasingly your work of faith and labor of love and endurance of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father;”

Then some months later, Paul found himself excessively burden to see how the young Church in Thessalonica was progressing. So much so he can bear it no longer, so he sent his faithful co-worker, Timothy to help foster their faith and encourage them.  Chapter 3:1-2, “Therefore when we could bear it no longer….. we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to establish and encourage you for the sake of your faith.”

These are precious words. We want to have a chance to really look into the heart of the apostle and the lives and the experiences of these young believers in Thessalonica.
